Ellesmere Port and Neston Constituency

Much of the constituency is dominated by the oil and petroleum works of Ellesmere Port, and the Shell refinery at Stanlow is the most complex of its type in Europe. And of course Vauxhall, our biggest employer, has been producing cars here since the early 1960s. Other industries include chemicals and fertiliser manufacture.

But today the constituency is changing fast. With the decline of some traditional industries, coupled with the job-reducing advances of technology, Ellesmere Port is discovering a new role for itself - as a retail and tourist attraction.

Until recently tourist attractions were limited to the award-winning Boat Museum, Ness Gardens, Parkgate Seafront and Hadlow Road Station. But now these have been joined by the hugely popular Cheshire Oaks designer Outlet Village, containing many shops, Vue cinemas, restaurants and a night club. In addition there is Deep Sea Leisure's Blue Planet Aquarium. Together these attractions draw millions of people to the constituency.
