Polling day was as usual very very long starting at about 6am. The teams spent hours on the street whilst Fran and I went everywhere at least twice on the loudspeaker, speaking to electors and visiting polling stations.
The efforts of all concerned were fantastic, especially our student contingent and our friends from Eddisbury who all worked long hours alongside local party activists.
By the end of the day we were all shattered and ready for bed but.... the count was next........ but the Council admitted to a clerical error at 4am on Friday morning. The proof that this was a transcription error lay in the Forum (Chester) not in the constituency and the people who could access it had all long since gone to bed! That left no option but to hold over till later in the morning when the agents met at the Forum prior to all reconvening in Ellesmere Port for the declaration at about 11am! |
