The result

Thankyou to the electors of Ellesmere Port & Neston

The result was very pleasing when it eventually came:

Denise Aspinall	Liberal Democrat	6,663	15.1	-0.7
Henry Crocker	UK Independence Party	1,619	3.7	+0.8 lost deposit
Jonathan Starkey	Independent	782	1.8	+1.8 lost deposit
Majority		4,331	9.8
Turnout		44,233	70.1	+8.8

It was a very civilized campaign on the whole (so I shan't gloat at Starkey's lost deposit- despite suffering a year of abusive comments from him!). The turnout of over 70% was a huge improvement from last time. The swing against us of 3.1% was far better that the national average for Labour and is a credit not just to my team but to the results of Labour action in Ellesmere Port & Neston.
