Unemployment in Ellesmere Port has nearly doubled from September 2006 to September 2011
Andrew Miller MP for Ellesmere Port & Neston is concerned and disappointed that unemployment has almost doubled in Ellesmere Port & Neston constituency since 2006. The figures from the House of Commons Library show the number of unemployed claimants in Ellesmere Port and Neston constituency in September 2011 was 2,144. This represents a rate of 5.0% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 311th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. The number of claimants is 250 higher than in September 2010 and 37 higher than in August 2011. (These data are not seasonally adjusted.)
In September 2006 there were 1,107 unemployed. This September there are over 7 JSA Claimants per Jobcentre Plus vacancy.
Andrew said, “These aren’t just figures this means that there are 2144 people not in employment, worried about their future and worried how to care for themselves and their families. We are more fortunate than some areas because we have maintained a manufacturing base and we have some high tech. industry as well as the massive retail sector. But I am keen to see inward investment to build on what we already have.”
